Reorganization Meeting

The Reorganization Meeting of the Evesham Township Council was called to order by Township Clerk Bonfrisco at 4:20p.m.  The meeting was held in the Meeting Room of the Evesham Township Municipal Complex at 984 Tuckerton Road, Marlton, NJ 08053.

Flag Salute.

Township Clerk Bonfrisco announced that the meeting was being held in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act.  Notice was sent to The Central Record and The Burlington County Times, posted on the Bulletin Board and sent to those who requested notification.

An invocation was given by Msg. Richard D. LaVerghetta of St. Joan of Arc Parish.

Administration of Oaths of Office

Mayor Randy Brown was sworn into office by David Akers.

Mayor Brown thanked his wife and family for their support and for allowing him to commit so much time to the office of Mayor.  He thanked his friend David Akers for participating at the meeting.

Councilwoman Deborah K. Hackman was sworn into office by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego.  Councilwoman Hackman stated she was humbled to be elected to serve her first full term on Council.  She thanked her husband and family for their support, as well as Township Manager Czerniecki, fellow Council members and the voters.

Council-Elect Steve Zeuli was sworn into office by his wife.  He thanked his family and friends for their support, stating it is an honor to serve the people of Evesham.

NOMINATION OF DEPUTY MAYOR & OATH OF OFFICE

On motion by Councilwoman Hackman, seconded by Councilman Croft, it was moved to nominate Joe Howarth as Deputy Mayor.

Council Comment:  Mayor Brown publicly thanked Deputy Mayor Howarth for attending many events and being an active Deputy Mayor.

Councilman Howarth was sworn into office as Deputy Mayor by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego.

MAYOR AND COUNCIL REMARKS

Councilman Croft welcomed and congratulated Councilman Zeuli.

Deputy Mayor Howarth thanked Mayor and Council for the nomination of Deputy Mayor.  He welcomed Councilman Zeuli and thanked the people of Marlton, stating it is an honor to serve the Township.

Mayor Brown commended Township Manager Czerniecki’s leadership as well as the work of the Department Heads and staff.  In recognition of former Councilman McKenna, Mayor Brown stated that he will miss his fiscal leadership and thanked him for having served.

Mayor Brown thanked his wife, son and daughter for their support. 

Mayor Brown thanked the Evesham Celebrations Foundation, the Senior Citizen’s Club, the Marlton Recreation Council and all volunteers that work to make Evesham a great community.

Mayor Brown outlined his goals for 2011, including being fiscally conservative with flat taxes, excellent service, improved passive and active recreation and community events. 

He stated the Township will be progressive with vendors, noting that Council will appoint one year professional contracts with a six month review to ensure vendors are held accountable and being fiscally responsible.

Mayor Brown called for recess at 4:45p.m. 

Council reconvened at 5p.m.

RESOLUTION NO. 1-2011 – APPOINTMENT OF TOWNSHIP SOLICITOR

On motion by Deputy Mayor Howarth, seconded by Councilwoman Hackman, it was moved to adopt Resolution No. 1-2011, inserting the name John Gillespie and the firm of Parker McCay, P.A.

STAFF COMMENTS

Township Clerk Bonfrisco congratulated the elected Council members and welcomed Councilman Zeuli and newly appointed professionals.

Township Solicitor Gillespie thanked Mayor and Council for the privilege to work with the Township.

Township Manager Czerniecki welcomed Councilman Zeuli and thanked him for his participation in a Councilmember orientation.

Township Manager Czerniecki made the following appointments for Engineering Services.

Township Engineer:

Rick Arango and the firm of Remington, Vernick & Arango Engineers

Township Traffic Engineer:

Maurice Rached and the firm of Maser Consulting, P.A.

Township Conflict/Backup/Roads Engineer:

Chris Rehmann and the firm of Adams, Rehmann & Heggan Associates, Inc.

COUNCIL COMMENTS

Councilman Zeuli thanked the residents of Evesham for their support.  He stated it is an honor and privilege to serve.  He thanked the staff, employees and professionals and stated he looks forward to working with them. Councilman Zeuli thanked his wife and family for their support.

Deputy Mayor Howarth thanked everyone and welcomed Township Solicitor Gillespie and new professionals.

Mayor Brown thanked Councilman Zeuli for running for office and welcomed him to Council.  He wished everyone a Happy New Year.
